The daffodils are popping up, the fresh green shoots are beginning to emerge, the blossom will soon start flowering! So why not embrace this stylish colour that spring has to offer in your wedding flowers?

I am here to share the stunning blooms that are in season during spring, how you can use colour in an elegant and stylish way and how you can create beautiful, impactful designs for your spring wedding.

WHAT FLOWERS ARE IN SEASON IN SPRING?

If you are getting married in Spring then you are lucky enough to have some of the most beautiful flowers in season for you to choose from to dress your big day. Daffodils, tulips, ranunculus, narcissi are all some of my favourites to use in spring wedding designs. We flowered this wedding at Tunnels Beaches in North Devon, at the end of March and you can see from the photos just how many gorgeous varieties are available.

The bridal bouquet consisted of a natural and elegant design full of peach, coral, yellow, orange and warm pink tones. Icelandic poppies were a favourite of the bride so we included these throughout the whole wedding to add that extra special, personal touch. As wedding florists it is our job to recommend the most beautiful flowers in season at the time of your wedding and offer alternative suggestions if needs be.

RANUNCULUS IN BRIDAL BOUQUETS

Ranunculus are one of the most romantic blooms you can use in a spring wedding. A sister of the peony, they are slightly smaller and daintier yet still have the impact with the amount of layers of ruffled petals. They come in a wide range of colours from crisp white and all the pastel shades, through to warm cerise, purple and burgundy tones. The peach salmon variety is an absolute corker of a colour and perfect to use in a colourful spring wedding like this one.

Ranunculus also come in a larger variety, called Clone. A real luxury bloom, they are completely beautiful and a prime flower to use in bridal and bridesmaids bouquets. Cloni Hanoi is the palest blush ranunculus and a firm favourite here, most brides say that want to include peonies in their flowers, however they have a really short season, so ranunculus are a perfect alternative.

A further variety is the Butterfly ranunculus, these are grown on a longer stem and have more texture and movement to them generally. The stems can be wispy and wonky and offer a huge amount of movement to a bouquet or an arrangement. This variety here, has an almost pearlescent glaze to the petals, a truly special bloom!

SPRING WEDDING CEREMONY FLOWERS:

This wedding took place outside, which in England you can never guarantee, but with the stunning sea views at Tunnels beaches it is an amazing backdrop to say ‘I Do’ Spring flowers are considered to be more dainty and so creating larger scale arrangements can take a lot more thought to create. The big branches of sweeping foliage are not quite fully grown yet, so we need to be clever with our designs. The warm coral, yellow, peach and orange tones work fabulously at this coastal venue and really provide such fun colour and impact to your all important wedding ceremony.

OUTDOOR WEDDING FLOWERS AT TUNNELS BEACHES:

The gazebo is a crucial feature to decorate if you are getting married at Tunnels Beaches. It will provide the backdrop to your ceremony and your photographs so I always encourage my couples to fully embrace dressing the entire gazebo, like we did here. Branches of yellow forsythia, tall eremrus are complimented by springtime viburnum, frittalria and the ranunculus. I added in some colourful roses and poppies for focal flowers and to add that romantic, luxurious feel to the installation.

I hope you have found this insight into how you can add colour to your spring wedding useful, the opportunities really are endless and you could not be getting married in a more special time!
