An outdoor ceremony at Pynes House full of pastel wedding flowers

It doesn’t get better than an outdoor ceremony at Pynes House: for Lauren and Matt a wedding full of late spring seasonal summer wedding flowers. An American couple who along with friends and family travelled all the way over to Devon, looking for that classic quintessential English country garden wedding. The happy couple had their heart set on an English country garden wedding and Pynes House is the most perfect due to accommodate this kind of wedding. With the house’s incredible history involving Queen Victoria paying a visit back in the day! It is absolutely steeped in incredible British history throughout the years.

I worked with Olivia from Host Weddings and Events who provided a gorgeous brief to allow us to create the most spectacular wedding flowers. Based around a subtle palette of ivory, blush, mocha and pale blue we completely embraced the late spring seasonal blooms, entering around May’s finest ingredients such as foxgloves, peonies and Solomon’s seal.

The couple had wanted to have an outdoor wedding ceremony, facing the beautiful long avenue of oak trees. The shape makes them reminiscent of a Tuscan avenue, yet they are actually Oak and so turn gorgeous bronze in the autumn! Quite often at Pynes House, we use the background of the house for the ceremony, so it was a real treat to work with this alternative view instead. However, like all good British weddings we had the weather to contend with and so were forced to create the set up inside as a wet weather alternative.

We filled beautiful rustic ceramic vases with overflowing British foliage and soft pastel blooms, the tall delphiniums provide so much impact, alongside locally grown trailing viburnum, peach foxgloves and blousy roses. By placing vases at different heights on pillars, you can create a really full, floral look in a natural and elegant way. It offers the same kind of look as a floral pillars or archway, but in a more asymmetric way, which my couple loved! The mantelpiece was also dressed in a full and luxurious design. Special touches like locally grown Orlaya, which has a similar look to Cow Parsley, offered such a movement and interest to the designs.

At the last minute we got the call to transform the florals into an outdoor ceremony, the bride Lauren was adamant to push ahead for an outdoor ceremony, so we quickly turned around the inside installations into an outdoor one. It’s times like this that I am so grateful to work with such professionals as Olivia who have everything under absolute control. The team and I worked quickly and throughly to transform the outdoor space in no time at all. After a quick ceremony, guests enjoyed champagne and canopies outside in the brief break of the weather, phew!

For the wedding breakfast at Pynes House, long banquet tables were full of low bowls of tumbling seasonal florals. Blousy roses in porcelain tones, sat alongside scented stocks, sweetpeas and peonies to create the perfect dining experience. Coloured taper candles added an extra layer of luxury and detail to the banquet tables, it is always so important to think of these extra special touches that allow the whole look to come together.

In the ball room there are two fabulous big mantelpieces that always cry out for flowers, we created gorgeous statement installations here to really add atmosphere to the room and to link the colour and interest of the flowers throughout the whole space. Large vases were brought in to the end of the rooms, with the meadow aisles lining the edge of the long tables.

Lauren’s bouquets were a natural and elegant hand tied design fill with seasonal flowers such as local sweet peas, blousy roses, peonies alongside delicate wispy textured blooms like orlaya and astrantia. It is the special, textured touches that really elevate bridal bouquets and make them completely unique, personal and special just to you.
